For years, the debate on wether choosing organic, particularly what food is concerned, actually is beneficial to your health, or just a fad and a complete waste of your money. My experience is that the focus in these debates are wrong, and that marks the end of the discussion; case closed. The nutritional value has been a popular topic of focus. The issue with eating produce sprayed with plant protective chemicals, or eating animals which has been fed said produce, will wind up in us at the end of the day. You are what you eat. Organic produce are also sprayed with chemicals, but it´s said to be way less and less toxic to our tissues. I am no expert on this matter, or on any other matter for that matter, but common sense and critical deliberation has me choose the latter of two evils. The more I understand the body and it´s workings, the harder it is not to be critical as to what I subject it to. I for one am constantly amazed! It´s said that each and every one of us can believe what we please in regards to all things organic. Luckily that’s our prerogative as free folk, but it is not our belief that will handle the consequences of an over loaded immune system. I will write more about anatomy, physiology and pato- physiology at a later stage.
Our bodies are exceptionally adaptable. After millions of years existence as a species though, it is not until after 1850- industrialization that we on a daily basis, surround ourselves with other harmful substances except ground- and cosmic radiation. The presence of man made toxins has escalated these years gone since, and has, like the most natural thing, made it´s way in to all aspects of our lives. We eat them, drink them, inhale them, bathe in them, apply them and clean ourselves and our homes with them. We have grown accustomed to them, and ask no questions about them in our busy day to day lives. “That’s just the way it is” or “no-one has taken any ill from them yet” are probably a fairly common chain of thought on the matter. The fact being that in industrialized countries, where accidents and infectious diseases used to be the main causes of un- health and death in the olden days, life- style illnesses are now on top of the list; taking years away from our lives before actually taking our lives. The causes of this are obviously complex, but to think that the cumulative effects of environmental toxins is a significant contributor is surely not that far fetched. To believe that we can exist completely protected from damaging substances in this day and age is utopia. Rather, we must educate ourselves as best we can, in order to make the best possible choices for ourselves and our loved ones. So. Pro or against organic living; here, like in all other areas of our society, there are someone benefitting from it, being money or power. To wield our undisputed power as consumers we must make conscious decisions as to where we spend our money.
